I believe that one of the reasons Helen Mirren was cast for this role was her ability to masterfully capture Colonel Powell’s austere manner which played part in the film’s suspensful plot line. If she appeared more empathetic, the film wouldn’t be – in my opinion – as tense and thought provoking.
