Mebendazole is a medicine used in humans to treat intestinal worm infections. These worms live in the gut and can cause various health problems. Mebendazole works by killing the worms so they can no longer live inside the body.

It is commonly used to treat several types of worm infections, such as:

Pinworms (threadworms): These are small white worms that often cause itching around the anus, especially at night.

Roundworms: These worms can grow large in the intestines and lead to belly pain or weight loss.

Whipworms: They live in the large intestine and can cause diarrhea and other digestive issues.

Hookworms: These can cause blood loss and anemia if not treated.

Mebendazole stops the worms from absorbing sugar, which they need to survive. Once they are weak and die, they pass out of the body through the stool. The treatment is usually very effective, especially when taken as directed.

In most cases, only one or two doses are needed. However, for some infections, your doctor may recommend a longer course. Mebendazole is safe for adults and children over 2 years old. It can be taken with or without food and doesn’t usually need to be taken with a laxative.

In short, mebendazole is an important medication used to get rid of harmful worms from the human body. It helps prevent symptoms like stomach pain, diarrhea, itching, and weight loss caused by these parasites.
